Serving Somali American Families Since 2024

Welcome to Somali Families USA

Your trusted platform for verified information, community resources, and protection against disinformation. We connect Somali Americans to the support they need.

Why This Platform Matters

In an era of widespread misinformation, Somali Americans need a trusted source for accurate information and community support.

Disinformation Targets Our Community

False narratives about Somali Americans spread rapidly online, leading to real-world harm including harassment, discrimination, and policy changes that hurt our families.

Knowledge Is Protection

Understanding your rights, accessing accurate information, and staying connected to verified resources protects you and your family from exploitation and discrimination.

Community Strength

When we stay informed and connected, we build collective power. Together, we can counter false narratives, support each other, and advocate for our community's needs.

Essential Information

Know Your Rights as an American

Whether you're a citizen, permanent resident, or visa holder, understanding your legal rights protects you and your family. Here are key rights every Somali American should know.

Right to Remain Silent
You have the right to remain silent if questioned by law enforcement. You do not have to answer questions about where you were born, your immigration status, or how you entered the country.
Right to Refuse Entry
You do not have to let immigration officers or police into your home unless they have a warrant signed by a judge. Ask to see the warrant through the door or window.
Right to an Attorney
You have the right to speak to a lawyer before answering questions. If you cannot afford a lawyer, ask for a list of free or low-cost legal services.
Right to Interpreter
If you do not speak English well, you have the right to an interpreter in immigration proceedings and when dealing with government agencies.
Right to Practice Religion
The First Amendment protects your right to practice your religion freely. Discrimination based on religion is illegal in employment, housing, and public services.
Right to Report Discrimination
You can report discrimination or hate crimes to local police, the FBI, or civil rights organizations. Your immigration status does not affect this right.
Critical Information

Fighting Disinformation Together

Our community faces coordinated disinformation campaigns designed to spread fear, division, and false narratives. Our Truth Hub exposes these tactics, provides accurate information, and helps you recognize manipulation when you see it.

Recent example: We've documented how YouTuber Nick Shirley used selective editing, visual manipulation, and gotcha-style interviews to spread false claims about Somali daycare owners—leading to frozen funding and federal investigations based on unverified allegations.
